Come help us restore critical desert tortoise habitat! You can participate either day, for as long as you want, but you will need to attend the morning orientation. We will begin with restoration training and a basic field class to help you identify burrows and other tortoise sign. Then we will get busy disguising illegal routes using vertical mulching techniques. There will also be an option to clean up trash and/or take a hike.
After the orientation, we will travel to the work area. Transition Habitat team members will guide participants and assist with the work.
TIME: Meet at 9 am, both days, for introductions and orientation. We will train you to identify burrows and find other tortoise signs and how to vertical mulch. You may participate on one or both days. Attendance will be capped at 15-20 people per day.
LOCATION: Meet at the intersection of Harper Lake Rd and Lockhart Ranch Rd, next to the Atlantica Mojave Solar Facility. We will caravan to the orientation site about 15 minutes away. 4x4 high-clearance vehicles are recommended, but not required.
CAMPING: Some of us may camp together on Friday night, so please feel free to join us! You are welcome to stay on-site Saturday night as well.
Children: Families welcome
Dogs: Please refrain from bringing dog(s) or be prepared to keep them on a short leash. We do not want to stress the tortoises in the area.
